Commercial Harvesting

Commercial harvesting itself is an effective management tool. Besides providing sites for reforestation and new growth, the proceeds from cutting mature trees can support ongoing management. Steps such as planning for regular rotations (times can vary), thinning less valuable and distressed trees to provide a more favorable growing environment, and taking advantage of programs and incentives, including those offered by forest product industries, can increase forest health and sustainability while maximizing potential financial returns.

Your County Forester can offer advice on harvesting methods and available services and resources.

Florida's forest and forest products industries have a total economic impact of $16.5 billion, including 133,000 jobs.

"Landowners are truly the heart of Florida's forests. They play a critical role in assuring that our forests are healthy and productive. We all reap the benefits of their management decisions."

Jeff Doran,
Executive Vice President,
Florida Forestry Association
