Reforestation

Reforestation goes hand in hand with harvesting and thinning your forest. Replanting cleared areas replaces old growth with new and offers opportunities to add preferred tree types, whether for legacy, for profit, for aesthetics, to create an attractive habitat for desired wildlife or for sport or recreation.

Reforestation is a vital part of any forest management plan. Your forester can help you determine planting types and times and can provide information about available seeds and seedlings.

The Life Cycle of a Managed Forest

A good way to research options for forest management techniques is to become familiar with the practices used for reforestation in your area. Seek the advice of a professional forester to help you evaluate and plan effective reforestation practices to meet your forest management objectives. Your site, the species which compose your forest, and the local market dictate reforestation systems that are biologically and economically feasible.

Florida is one of the top four tree-planting states in the nation- more than 82 million trees are planted each year, with five trees planted for each one harvested. (In the past 80 years, more than 6 billion trees have been planted.)

"I would encourage fellow landowners to contact your local Division of Forestry representative to learn what they can do for you. Many of their services are free, they are easy to work with, and they will help improve your land."

Hardee County
